Cross Country Syllabus-2008
1) Practice. Rain or SHINE!! When you come to practice be ready to run. If you are not dressed or did not bring your shoes then you’re absent. If you can't finish a workout for whatever the reason be sure and let your coaches know. For your own safety always stay on the assigned route, never adjust to your own workout. When you arrive at practice immediately start stretching, a coach does not need to be present for stretching to begin. If you miss a practice you will not compete in the next race, but will be required to be there to assist your coaches and teammates. Anyone who continuously misses practice will be dropped.
2) Injuries. If an athlete is injured, he or she is still required to attend practice dressed in workout clothes. A coach will send the athlete to the trainer at an appropriate time. The athlete is to return from the trainer with a note explaining the status.
3) Racing. Races are most Thursdays and Saturdays. Athletes are expected to attend even if they can’t run due to an injury. Athletes are required to attend every race unless they receive prior written permission to miss a race from a coach. If you become ill the night or morning of a race your parent must call me at 714-608-3370 (available 24 hours a day) and leave a message prior to the race. Missed races will result in a lower grade and/or a drop.
4) Physicals. All athletes must have a physical to compete. If they bring $25 to practice, I will send them to Dr. Ha to get a physical.
5) Skateboards. Stay off skateboards during the season!! A skateboard has claimed the second serious cross-country injury in as many years.
6) Racing Flats. Racing Flats greatly reduce your time when racing. It is recommended that all athletes purchase a pair to enhance their time. If you have a pair of racing flats (shoes) that you out grew before you wore them out, please bring them to a Coach as we can find a good home for them.
7) Transcripts. All juniors and seniors please provide a copy of your transcript and SAT or ACT scores so I have them available when speaking with college coaches.
8) Academics. If you are struggling in a class notify a coach immediately. The later we find out this information the less we can do. We do have free tutors and grade card at our access.
9) Locks. It is not safe to leave bags and books unattended on the track during practice. Purchase as many locks as you need and use as many lockers as you need (during practice only) and lock up your personal items. We will not be responsible for items left on the track.
10) Bus/Transportation. All athletes are required to take the bus to the meets. A parent may take his or her own son or daughter home from the meet with coach’s consent. A parent may not take home any other athletes from meets.
11) Fees. $65 (2008)transportation, $25 trainer, $100 Participation
12) Athletic Supporters. Gentlemen make sure you either wear athletic supporters, or athletic briefs. Boxers are unsightly (visible) and not conducive to comfortable running.
13) Membership. If you are removed from the team by the coach, or you voluntarily quit, you will not be eligible for future team participation.
